Island School 2017 - Day 4
After a star-filled night, the sun rises on our campsite. After a hearty breakfast cooked over a fire and a quick snorkel around the area, we packed up and set off in the van to make our way back to the Island School. The first stop of the day was the beautiful sapphire blue hole. This 600-feet deep pool was nestled in the woods just off the road. One by one we all took the 25 foot plunge from the top of the cliff to the crystal clear water below. If you want to know what eternity feels like, just take that leap and it eons will go by before you hit the water. After we all braved this challenge we set off once more to our next stop, the magnificent glass window bridge. The glass window bridge is a land bridge a few meters wide that separates the deep blue atlantic from the shallow turquoise waters of the Caribbean. The striking contrast between these two bodies of water is truly a sight to behold. A pit stop at a local bakery in Governor's Harbor was well worth it, as the whole group marveled at the deliciousness of the pastries we bought. For lunch we picnicked on a beautiful white sand beach that was once the location of a Club Med Resort. After about another hour of driving, we arrived at our last stop, a humongous banyan tree. Even though we did not see any of the wild horses that roam that area of the island, the serenity and cool calm under the canopy of the great banyan tree was a fantastic way to end our two day camping endeavor. However, our day was not over yet! Even though most in our group took naps upon arriving back on campus, I promptly went outside to the beach and built myself a sand castle of which I am pretty proud. The evening finally came to a close as we and the watched an eye opening documentary called "Racing Extinction." Though mostly sad, it did end on a happy note with a message that one person can really make a difference and change the world for the better. These deep thoughts lingered in all our minds as we finally dozed off.
