Cambodia day 1-2: Travel
At 6:50 this morning ten students, Mrs Keller-Coffey, Mrs. Fuller and Mr. Powers gathered at Ternminal 7 at JFk in New York to begin our service trip to Cambodia. A great thanks to Karen Hansell for driving the crew from Millbrook, and for the Parents who got everyone to the airport early!
Despite a minor bump during immigration, we all had plenty of time to grab a bit and wait for our 15+ hour flight to Hong Kong. Flying in a 777 on Cathay is pretty nice. Liv G, Ang M and Tara P had a 15 hour couch party, while others chatted, slept, and enjoyed a wide selection of entertainment. The flight was long, no doubt, but quite remarkable. We took the Polar route, so Nova Scotia, Greenland and the North Pole/Arctic were on the route, as well as northern Russia, Mongolia and China. From the Greenland ice sheet to the ice flows in the arctic circle, the views from 31,000 feet we're astonishing. As we landed in Hong Kong, the incredible scale of Asia was palpable. A smoothish landing, and then we explored the Hong Kong airport. Remarkably busy, yet it does not feel over crowded. We picked up our 11th student, Emily Cumming, and then we were off to Siem Reap.
As we deplaned, the hospitality of the Cambodian people was evident. We made it to our fine accommodations, and then promptly fell asleep after eating some pizza. Thanks To Vidya, our contact with CLA.
