Tuesday, June 14

We started the morning nice and early, 6:30 am, with a run-swim. The run-swim is about a two mile loop that goes along the coast consisting of intervals of running and swimming with activities such as push ups, ab workouts, and lifting in between. After breakfast, we headed out with the Ray Team for a day full of catching, analyzing, and tagging rays. We split into two teams and tagged the rays by jumping off the boats and chasing the rays. After we caught the rays, everyone participated in the process of tagging, measuring, and taking samples of the ray we caught. By the end of the excursion, we had caught three rays, this had taken us three and a half hours. Our trip was cut short by a large storm that forced us to head back to shore about an hour early. Although we didn't get to spend a full day on the boats, we took an adventure to the local marina. Only a short five minute bike ride away, we were allowed to get some snacks, as well as throw some of the lion fish bits that we had kept from the night before in the water to try and attract some sharks. After a long morning, the afternoon consisted of a nap for almost everyone. After resting up, we put on our long pants and long sleeves (yes this was very hot), and headed out with Joseph, a man who works at the Island School, and he taught us how to catch white crabs. Everyone fell in love with Joseph by the end of the night and succeeded in catching two crabs. It was another long and eventful day here in Eleuthera and we're excited to see what tomorrow consists of!
