India Day1-Day3

Day 1
We arrived at the Mumbai international airport on the midnight of the 27th. We split up into 4 taxis and experienced the crazy driving. Though it was at night, we could still see the slums and street dogs. After 3 hours of driving, we arrived at the guest house of the Deep Griha society, which is the organization that we are working with while in India. Instead of taking a quick nap, we headed toward the Deep Griha main Pune office. After registering, we took a walk around the slum nearby. Even though the condition of the slum was not the best, the people in the slums were all very friendly and always had smiles on their faces. Later on in the afternoon, we got henna tattoos from young women who were practicing to become henna artists. By the end of the day, we were all exhausted and went to bed right after dinner.

Day 2
Today we went to another branch of the Deep Griha Society, we played with the youngest kids at their day care center called Creches. The kids were adorable and there were two nursery care mothers. It was heartbreaking to hear the stories of some of the kids’ background; however, there was a lot of energy and hope, and it seemed like the kids could not have been happier. We visited a few other crèches and the kids sang rhymes for us. The woman who led us to each crech explained to the care mothers that Ben, the only boy on the trip, is the Indian god Krishna because he is always surrounded by women; she also mentioned that Mary is from China and Mrs. K-C is a married Indian woman with a bindi on her forehead. Every crech that we went, the care mothers were all very proud of the children.
Day 3

We attempted to shop in the city of Pune, and got a taste of the Indian life style.
